Manual install steps

After downloading the zip, load the extension with these steps:

Unzip the downloaded file

Extract the archive to a folder you can find easily (like your Desktop or Documents). You’ll get a folder containing manifest.json.

Open your browser’s extensions page

Type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar and press Enter (for Edge, use edge://extensions/).

Turn on Developer mode

Find the “Developer mode” toggle in the top-right corner of the extensions page and turn it on.

Load the unpacked extension

Click the “Load unpacked” button that appears in the top-left, then select the folder you extracted in step 1.

Pin it to the toolbar

Click the puzzle-piece icon (extensions menu) on the right of your toolbar, find Aha Translate, and click the pin icon to keep it handy.

Note: manually installed extensions don’t update automatically. To get a new version, download the zip again and reinstall over the old one.
The Chrome Web Store version updates automatically — we recommend switching to it once it’s live.

Verify after install

Once installed, open any foreign-language page (like a news site in another language) and press Alt+Q. If the text is replaced with a translation, the extension is working.

FAQ

Why is nothing happening after install?

Please check: ① the extension is enabled on the extensions page (its toggle is on); ② you’ve refreshed the page you want to translate (pages open before install need a refresh to inject the script); ③ the shortcut isn’t taken by another extension (you can change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts).

Which browsers are supported?

Aha Translate is built on the Chrome MV3 standard and works on all Chromium-based browsers — Chrome, Edge, Arc, Brave, Opera. Firefox and Safari are coming soon.
